Tip #1 Dishes

When you want things to change and you don’t know where to start, doing this one thing is something that will make a real difference in your life. You will see and feel something happening. You will begin to realize that something is really changing.

Forming new habits are imperative to becoming organized.

The habit you are forming right now in tip #1, is to wash your dishes every time you use one.  No more dropping things in the sink till later.

If you have dishes now that need to be done, do them…

Take all the dishes out of the sink and fill it half way up with hot sudsy water.

Then put your dishes in it and let them soak for about 5 to 10 minutes.  If you have a dishwasher, soak them, then put the soaked dishes in it, and start it up.

Put the dishes away as soon as you are able to, you can let them air dry.

Right now start making it a HABIT to be ultra conscious of dishes. Anything you cook with, or eat with, need to be washed right away.

Tell yourself it is no longer acceptable to leave dishes unwashed.

If you don’t have a dishwasher, wash the dishes and put them in the dish drain. You don’t have to dry them right away. 

When they air dry, or in the morning, be sure to put them away. 

YOU MUST PUT DISHES AWAY IN THE MORNING BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE HOUSE.

You must be sure that dishes are done before bed. Before  you go to bed you need to be mindful that there are NO dishes in the sink. If you have a dishwasher, go to sleep with the dishwasher running.  When you wake up, put the dishes away before you leave the house.

You have experienced the full sink with the dishes piled up on the counter top and you know how much it stinks. You know how it feels to need a dish or a fork and have to dig in a dirty pile of dishes to get one to wash and use.  

You want things to change, you have to do things differently or they will stay the same. 

If you think that adhering to this one tip will not make a difference, please believe me, it will!

1. Do dishes as you use them.

2. Don’t go to sleep with any dishes in the sink. 

3. Be sure that dishes are done, or dish washer is running before bed. 

4. Put away the dishes before you leave the house in the morning

Hey Kathy,

While my house is a hot mess, my dishes are always done and my counters have to be super clean at all times. I’m so weird, with all the chaos around me, doing dishes is my absolute favorite chore.

I’ll take this tip to heart…but not today or tomorrow. I broke my leg and dislocated my foot 2 weeks ago—-still on the mend and cannot stand at sink….no dishwasher now. But as soon as I’m able I promise to make this my new habit. Blessings…thank you

My daughter came over last weekend and cleaned and decluttered my kitchen and living room. What a difference, and so far I’m keeping it that way.

I was the oldest of 8 kids, followed by 5 boys. My mom could do a good job of cleaning and she had me babysit, so I really never learned how to clean. But I’ve always known how to take care of babies, and had four of my own. I don’t know how my daughter got to be so good at it because I sure didn’t give her the example.

    It’s born in us. Just like some of us are born musical or mathematical. We can’t be taught, we come out of the womb playing the piano. It is the same as being super creative and spontaneous and flexible. Those born organized can’t be flexible, most don’t have a creative bone in their body and their spontaneity amounts to last minute rug shampooing. They have their gifts. They can hone in on what needs to be done and take a big job and break it down so that it could get done.

    You aren’t good at babies and bad at organizing because you were taught to be good at babies and bad at organizing.

    We’ve all got our gifts. It’s not bad to be disorganized, just like it’s not bad to not be musical. You don’t know how your daughter got to be so good at it? It’s because it is her gift. It was how she is wired. It’s a beautiful thing. 🙂 All of it.

    I hope you will see your lack of order as the same you would your lack of speaking a foreign language you’ve never learned. It’s not a fault. You know, my course is amazing 🙂 Old dogs can learn new tricks! (I’m not calling you a dog LOL)

Good morning. My feet have not hit the floor yet but when they do they are pointed in the direction of my kitchen sink. You are so right if nothing changes nothing changes so here I go dirty dishes lookout, you no longer open the space in my sink and countertops.

Hi Kathy, I’ve watched a few of your videos, and darn it, this time I’m gonna get this place cleaned up!! I have my craft stuff all over the place, and a small designated bedroom, that’s supposed to be my work room. My dining room is full, my kitchen counters are full, and I’ve even got stuffed stored in my bedroom, that’s also full. I’m working on decluttering, which I desperately need help with….so happy I found you……🥰🥰
